Challenge
Avira operated multiple security products — each with its own design language, component library, and brand expression. After the acquisition by Gen Digital (NortonLifeLock), the need for unification became even more urgent.
Approach
I led the creation of the Umbrella Design System: a single source of truth that could express every product's identity while maintaining brand coherence across the entire portfolio.
Token architecture. Established a semantic token system that allowed each product to maintain its visual identity while sharing the same underlying component code.
Component library. Built a shared component library used across all Avira products, reducing design and development duplication significantly.
Governance. Designed contribution workflows and review processes to ensure the system remained consistent as teams grew.
Results
- Unified design language across all Avira products
- Significant reduction in design-to-development time
- Smooth transition during Gen Digital acquisition
- Foundation for cross-brand design collaboration
